Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

This course deals with the opportunities and conditions for using historical-theoretical studies as the operative basis for current architectural projects. The majority of the course is directed toward training students in the ability to formulate and translate such studies to their Year 3bachelor’s thesis project.

Intended learning outcomes

After the course the student should be able to

  • Independently formulate a historic-theoretical research in relation to a contemporary architectural project and its thematic question.
  • Present different strategies of planning such an operative research.
  • Analytical and critically transform the research into a written text.
  • Reflect on their learning in written or spoken form.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

Other requirements for final grade

The learning outcomes are examined through the records of the design process, and through the outcomes of the course specified assignments. To achieve the approved level (pass) students must have approved tasks, including 80% attendance at lectures, seminars, tutorials and reviews.

A reflection on the individual learning process must be handed in.
