Content and learning outcomes

Course disposition

The course is carried out as a project work and is carried out individually or together with another student. The course is organised with organised supervision and in continuous synchronization throughout the course period.

Course contents

The degree project should constitute a specialisation within the main field for first-cycle studies to satisfy the requirements for higher education qualification. The course is designed as a limited project of independent nature within transport planning.

Intended learning outcomes

After completed degree project, the student should be able to

show knowledge of the scientific foundation and the applicable methods of the chosen subject area, orientation in current research and development activities, and an advanced knowledge within the transport- and traffic field.

demonstrate the ability to search, collect and use relevant information critically and identify one's needs of additional knowledge

demonstrate the ability to formulate, assess and handle problems and critically discuss phenomena, issues and situations

demonstrate the ability to plan and with applicable methods carry out assignments within given time frames

demonstrate the ability to orally and in writing present and discuss information, problems and solutions in dialogue with different groups

demonstrate the ability to make judgements with regard to relevant scientific, social and ethical aspects

demonstrate the skills required to work independently within some part of the main field of technology

demonstrate an understanding of the meaning of a sustainable development within the subject area

Literature and preparations

Specific prerequisites

At least 135 educational credits should have been collected before the degree project may be started. Of these must be 60 credits in advanced specialisation at the first-cycle level within the main field of study including advanced traffic studies, where the courses AH1022, AH1023 and AH1025 should be completed before the degree project may be started.

It is the responsibility of the examiner to ensure that the student has the required deepened knowledge and that the student has completed the main part of the studies before the degree project is started.

Examination and completion

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The degree project should normally be carried out under the program's last semester. To pass the degree project must the achievement not be below any of the expected learning outcomes of the course.
