Awarded grants for doctoral projects 2026
The Swedish Space Research School (SSRS) steering committee convened April 8th 2026 and made decisions on grants for doctoral projects.
A total of 75 applications were received. Competition was intense, as the allocated budget of up to SEK 35 million is sufficient to fund only eight doctoral candidates. The awarded projects and the funding allocated over a four-year period are presented in the table below.
We would like to thank everyone for the strong interest that the Swedish Space Research School (SSRS) has generated in such a short time. We look forward to welcoming the first cohort of doctoral candidates to the research school this autumn.
A special thank you is extended to the evaluation committee, chaired by Olle Norberg, who together with Lars Eliasson, Donal Murtagh, and Heather Reese worked intensively to complete the evaluation within a short time frame. The contributions of the many individual reviewers were also essential—representing most Swedish higher education institutions and providing their unique expertise. Thank you all for your invaluable efforts.
There is also an opportunity to affiliate PhD students with space-related research to the graduate school, even if they are not funded through SSRS.
Affiliated PhD students will have access to SSRS courses, workshops, and networking activities.
More information on affiliation and how to apply is available here: Affiliated PhD Students to SSRS
