Seminar on Challenges in attaining SDG 6 concerning access to safe and affordable drinking water for all Time

During Stockholm World Water Week many sector partners and stakeholder visits
Stockholm, and we will take the opportunity to showcase the programme
“Enhancing private sector capacity for scaling-up access to safe drinking water – policy,
systems strengthening and sustainable service delivery” and discuss it’s contributions in attaining SDG 6 concerning access to safe and affordable drinking water for all.

The KTH-International Groundwater Arsenic Research Group is one of the leading research groups with multidisciplinary fields of Environment and Geochemistry, Groundwater chemistry, land and water pollution research around the globe. The goal of the group is to help the society by providing most innovative technologies to help to protect different elements of ecosystems and improve livelihood. KTH Royal Institute of
Technology has been actively working in different regions of Bangladesh in connection with the projects concerning on arsenic mitigation in collaboration with University of Dhaka, NGO Forum for Public Health, BRAC during the past 20 years. KTH has recently collaborated with UNICEF Bangladesh to implement a programme titled ‘Enhancing private sector capacity for scaling up access to safe drinking water- policy, systems strengthening and sustainable service delivery’ in Bangladesh. The programme will be executed in close association with the local relevant authorities, including the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), Policy Support Branch (PSB) of Local Government Division (LGD) under Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Cooperates (MoLGRD&C), UNICEF Bangladesh, Local Government Institutes (LGIs), private drillers and local NGOs and WASH Sector partners.

The following goals and objectives are set for this seminar:

  • Stakeholders are oriented on the KTH expected programme outputs/deliverables
  • Stakeholders gain an understanding of the integration of the SASMIT protocol into the DPHE-UNICEF Arsenic Safe Union Protocol
  • Present situation in Bangladesh regarding the access to safe water
  • Discuss challenges in attaining SDG 6 linked with Society
  • Improve intra and inter sectoral coordination
