Published Oct 26, 2022

KTH has appointed Isaac Owusu-Agyeman as coordinator and deputy director of the Hammarby Sjöstadsverk. Hammarby Sjöstadsverket is owned and operated by KTH and the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and is one of the world's leading research and development facilities in water treatment technology. The facility is used in both national and international research projects and as a test and pilot facility. Isaac Owusu-Agyeman will coordinate and support the activities of KTH researchers at the facility, and will be active in creating a conducive environment for KTH researchers.

Research activities that are carried out in the facility are mainly sustainable water and wastewater treatment technologies, resource recovery from waste and sustainable sludge management, but Hammarby Sjöstadsverk can be used for other suitable research activities as well.

Master's and Ph.D. degree experiments can here be tested in a real-world environment. Besides research, the facility is used for educational purposes including course lab work and excursions.

The facility is equipped with pilot reactors (including stationary and mobile) and modern instruments. In September Hammarby Sjöstadverket left its previous premises at the Henriksdal treatment plant and work is currently underway to prepare a new location at Loudden for research and development work. The new location is planned to be ready in the beginning of 2023.
