New blog post about waste in Stockholm's waterways

Researcher and teacher Lauren McKee's students sampled the water in a number of waterways in Stockholm. Using genome sequencing they got in-depth knowledge of what hid in the murky water.

"One of the great biotechnological advances of recent years is the development of affordable and accessible methods for genome sequencing. In the field of metagenomics, we can sequence the genomes of all the microbes in a community, by extracting DNA directly from an environmental sample such as soil or water."
