Learning outcomes

The student should:

  • Be able to apply knowledge and skills that has been acquired during the program to a given problem.
  • Within given bounds, and with limited information, independently be able to analyse and discuss complex issues and be able to handle larger problems on an advanced level within the area.
  • Reflect about, evaluate and critically review their own and others scientific results.
  • Be able to document and present their own work, for a given group, with high demands on structure, formal requirements and language skills.
  • Be able to identify needs for further research and be able to continously develop their competence.

Course main content

The Masters thesis should be a part of a deeper study within the program area and be on an advanced level in order to fulfill the demand for a Masters degree in technology. This means that the thesis normally should be carried out within the area that the student has been prepared for. If the student wants to carry out the thesis within a different area this should be approved by the person responsible for the basic education.

Eligibility

In general the rule is that the main part of the studies, at least 240 credits (if the program is 270 credits according to earlier rules, the demand, is at least 210 credits) should be ready before the thesis work is allowed to start. The examinator must make sure that the student has focused in the relevant area (see last paragraph) and that the main part of the program is ready before the thesis work starts. Exceptions can be made by the person responsible for basic education. The masters thesis should normally be written during the last term of the program.
