Pint of Science Festival 2026
Chiara Maria Mariani gave a talk called “Shades of grey: what we perceive beyond what we see” at the Pint of Science event “
More than meets the eye: spotting brain health in everyday life
” in Dublin on the 20th May. This sold-out event brought together three researchers to present how science is learning to spot brain changes earlier, and more clearly, than ever before. Chiara’s talk explored the question “can we re-wire how we see when the centre of vision fails?”.
The Pint of Science festival provides an opportunity for the public to discover the latest in science by bringing researchers to local pubs and cafes across Ireland. The festival runs over a few days in May each year.
European Researchers' night in Sweden
The ACTIVA project had a hands-on exhibition at ForskarFredag, which is part of the European Researchers' night Sept 26, 2025:

Here, teenagers could test their visual function and get a glimpse of the research activities of ACTIVA by discussing with the doctoral candidates Ozan Özhan (KTH), Faeze Mashayekhi (KTH), Sara Silva Leite (Zeiss), and Chiara Maria Mariani (UCD).
International Day of Light 2025
The ACTIVA project was presented during of the International Day of Light 2025, hosted amongst others by ACTIVA’s partner University College Dublin (UCD).

Optics and Photonic’s Day, Ireland (09/11/2024): Joint event between UCD OPTICA and SPIE student chapter, and the Technical University of Dublin. The ACTIVA Doctoral Candidates: Chiara Maria Mariani and Sunil Kumar Chaubey participated along with their Supervisor Brian Vohnsen and referred to the ACTIVA Doctoral Network
Researcher’s night in Mytilene, Greece
Researcher’s night in Mytilene, Greece (27/09/2024): ACTIVA’s Konstantinos Ntatsis (Diestia), was invited to present ACTIVA and his project in the “researcher’s night” in Mytilene (Lesbos) on 27th September. It was an interactive demo for the general public and a presentation about ACTIVA, he also interacted on one-to-one level with the people participating.
