The City Accelerator Club - Baltic Sea network for municipalities is a project from “Race for the Baltic” for municipalities to boost their commitment to the Baltic Sea. They have organized an event focusing on accelerating solutions against eutrophication in municipalities and protecting the Baltic Sea. The event was hosted by WaterCentre@KTH on 26 April.

The participants were a diverse audience from Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, and Sweden. The session topics ranged from the municipalities’ projects, internal load, stormwater planning and management, and funding and loan opportunities.

During this event, among other fascinating presentations, Anna Carina Ericson, a former Catchment Officer on stormwater planning and eutrophication, presented a session on stormwater management. Gunaratna Kuttuva Rajarao , a Researcher from CBH-KTH presented her research and experience from her joint CleanStormWater project with Baltic partners in Riga, Viimsi and Turku. Joydeep Dutta , a Professor from SCI-KTH, presented his work on nanomaterials to remove pollutants from water.

After the oral presentations, the participant exchanged ideas and discussed the challenges of their municipalities in a workshop.

The gathering has been an excellent opportunity for municipalities to learn how to accelerate solutions against eutrophication, exchange knowledge and experiences, and meet people interested in protecting the Baltic Sea. The final aim was to build a strong network around the Baltic Sea.

The morning sessions were followed by an excursion to Stockholm Royal Seaport (Norra Djurgårdsstaden), where the participants learned about urban stormwater planning.

The most important question of the day: How can we protect the Baltic Sea together?
