Successful dissertation on urban gardening

In conversation with her opponent, Associate Professor Flaminia Paddeu , Nathalie Bergame defended her doctoral dissertation entitled More than Flowers! On the transformative practice of commoning urban gardens on the 13th of November.

For the past five years, Nathalie worked to understand and explain how collective forms of urban gardening in public parks in the City of Stockholm can lead to social change.

Her thesis centers around the practice’s contradictions and its potential for emancipation. But it also relates to questions of gender, class and current forms of urbanisation.
