About Centre X

Centre X (Advanced Manufacturing Solutions for Next Generation Powertrain) is an initiative in the field of Production Engineering, led by KTH and Chalmers. Bringing together major stakeholders from academia and industry, the centre will create innovative powertrain solutions, advancing energy-efficient transportation and manufacturing.
Key industrial and scientific challenges in the field of Production Engineering include achieving higher resource and energy efficiency, developing sustainable materials, and integrating advanced manufacturing technologies. The heavy vehicle manufacturing industry depends on research, development, and training resources at the highest international levels to address these challenges and remain competitive. As manufacturing evolves rapidly, many new problems will need to be solved quickly. The focus of Centre X is to support established industries in adapting to rapid new players in Production Engineering and to develop new methods and tools for the next generation of powertrains.
To address these needs, Centre X will engage in the following activities:
- Knowledge and competence to achieve world class and sustainably manufacturing systems.
- Ensuring a high level of innovation and technological excellence.
- Creating an over-critical resource by collaboration and make use of synergies between businesses, researchers and government agencies.
- Creating a long-term cooperation with leading suppliers of machinery, methods and tools.
- Access to experimental and simulation resources for development and evaluation of new technology.
- Being able to implement new technology and methods in the industry.
- Increased mobility between industry, research institutes and academia.
- Creating and support of personal and training resources for education at all relevant levels.
Centre X and it four equal partners: Scania, Volvo, KTH and Chalmers, will work together to develop new solutions.
The centre is run by Chalmers and KTH in collaboration, with two centre directors.
