Research projects

In 2026, InspireLab supports three larger projects (5-6,5 MSEK) and smaller projects (1,5 MSEK), all focused on innovative technologies to improve women’s lives and promote gender equality across different areas of society.

ListenUp: A Gender Inclusive Speech Technology Training Tool

ListenUp is a pilot project addressing unconscious gender bias in how voices are perceived, using a web-based tool to promote more reflective and inclusive listening habits.

Sailing Towards Inclusion: A Gender-Conscious Review of Olympic Sailing Classes

This project reviews Olympic sailing classes and boats from a gender perspective, to enable gender-inclusive equipment. By centering female athletes in the evaluation, the project seeks to identify boats that support competitive performance across a wider range of body types, delivering recommendations to guide future equipment upgrade.

When Silence Speaks: Feminist AI Addressing Gender-Based Violence

Composite of AI-generated images.

This project aims to make online gender-based violence (GBV) visible – violence that is often hidden through silence and omission in digital environments. The goal is to develop a technical framework capable of detecting and analysing these “missing data” using advanced natural language processing and knowledge graphs.

PelviTwin: Digital Twins and Ultrasound Technology to Prevent Childbirth Injuries

Pelvic floor injuries after childbirth are common but difficult to diagnose. The project develops a digital twin of the pelvic floor to help researchers and clinicians understand how injuries occur, predict and prevent risks, and design individualised rehabilitation strategies, thereby improving women’s health and quality of life.

Home-Based Hormone Diagnostics

Hormonal health remains one of the most underexplored areas of medicine, particularly in women’s health. The project develops a new, affordable, home-based system that measures hormones in urine in a simple and non-invasive way, empowering women to track their health. It uses fiber optics, spectroscopy, and AI to analyze hormones such as LH, FSH, estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, and serotonin in real time.

Counter ‘Deepfake Porn’ through Education and Addressing Digital Consent

This project aims to prevent the creation and spread of synthetic, non-consensual intimate material, so-called deepfake porn—a growing form of gender-based violence that primarily affects women. It promotes discussion and awareness of digital consent around intimate images and provides a foundation for research into online environments where such material is produced and shared.
