The Global Food System, Alternative Protein, and the Speaker

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the global food system is responsible for roughly 25-35% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. Notably, a large part of the grown crops are being dedicated to feedstock which in turn do not provide the full extent of their nutritional value to human society. Hence, it is important to discuss alternative ways to obtain proteins.

Elena Walden works for the Good Food Institute, a nonprofit think tank, and pushes for sustainable food systems that are better for the planet, people, and animals. Elena will talk about Sweden’s alternative protein landscape: strengths, gaps & international benchmarking. Moreover, the lunch lecture will focus on the Good Food Institute’s analysis of how Sweden performs, specifically on fermentation and cultivated meat.
