First up - Mälarenergi AB is using green app

Published Feb 13, 2015

In a time of customisation, when the customer is used to being able to make personal choices, the energy sector has not kept up to speed. Do you find it tricky interpreting your energy bills and struggle to see how you could possibly impact the number of kWh used? Then you're not alone!

Meet Greenely- the app that lets you understand what you're paying for and how you can make smart choices that cut your bills.

Greenely , a young and hungry startup, develops algorithms to interpret the raw data and makes your energy consumption accessible in a very simple way via a personal tree in your smart phone.

- That consumers are paying hundreds of kronor on the basis of unintelligable information is just silly, We want to make it accessible in a modern way, says Tanmoy Bari, CEO, Greenely AB.

The service is now being tested by Mälarenergi customers and around a hundred households will be studied during 2015. The idea is to try to verify the possible scalable advantages of using smart energy grids for Swedish households and energy systems.

The Greenely App is developed to give you an instant overview of how to lower your costs and make smart energy saving choices

Smart meters

Participating means the customer can access an interactive tool to facilitate energy savings of over 10% through in-depth information and analysis of their typical behaviour. Tanmoy Bari says that many households today lack information about their current electricity usage and explains that Greenely helps the users become energy savvy through feedback and guidance directly via the app.

- Over 100 million smart meters have been installed all over the world and enormous amounts of energy data is accessible throuch smart grids. This is something we want to take advantage of and provide households with information that was previously not available.

Mälarenergi is the pioneer

First up to try the product is Mälarenergi, who are offering their customers a ew technology to influence their electricity bills.

- It's going to be very exciting to see how the pilot customers receive this. They are, after all, the ones deciding if this is going to make it as a commercial product,  says Ove Fredriksson, market strategist at Mälarenergi AB.

The team behind Greenely are engineering students from KTH and the startup has been incubated in the KTH student incubator   . They have received support from KTH Innovation under the supervision of business coach Donnie SC Lygonis. We put two questions to Mohammed Al Abassi, project manager, Greenely AB.

What support has been the most valuable to the development of Geenely?

- KTH Innovation gave us the security to actually have the curage to go ahead and go for it with our idea. We have developed in all areas like sales, management and marketing. Since October 2014 we have also been a part of the European accellerator  KIC InnoEnergy which is providing great support and an opportunity to reach a European market.

Is the app downloadable to anyone?

- The app is not yet available to anyone as we are going to onduct a closed beta test with the selected households from Mälarenergi. The ambition is to make the app available on a broad scale after a successful pilot.
