SF271V Web Based Course in Financial Mathematics 7,5 cr

The course is aimed for those who want to get a general knowledge of financial mathematics. You might work within banking or finance, or you have attended a higher education in Financial Economics, and want to increase your understanding of mathematical modeling and the analysis of these models.

During later years modeling of financial markets has drawn a lot of attention, and today there is a great demand for this kind of knowledge.

Companies and private persons are often exposed to risks which they are not willing to take. Commodity prices, exchange rates, and interests change over time. The values of value portfolios, for example pension funds are exposed to stochastic variations. Therefore, on the financial market there are different types of financial contracts, such as forward contracts, and options. These result in the possibility to insure oneself against the risks- but also make it possible to speculate of risks.

Financial mathematics partly treats how to set prices on financial contracts, and partly how financial risks can be estimated and minimized. The course is aimed for those who would like to get a general knowledge of financial mathematics. You might work within banking or finance, or you have attended a higher education in Financial Economics, and want to increase your understanding of mathematical modeling and the analysis of these models.

The course is concluded by an oral or written exam at a university or by video with webcam. This exam is to a greater extent a rehearsal on parts of the net based examinations which you have already done during the course.
