Exchange students at KTH

KTH is a popular university for international students. During 2009 KTH received 1349 exchange students and 1500 international master's students. KTH has more international students than any other university in Sweden and nearly 100 nationalities are represented.

The majority of the exchange students come from European countries, with Germany and France as the most frequent countries of origin. However, KTH also welcomes students from Asia, the US, Australia and Latin America every year.

Who can become an exchange student at KTH?

in Stockhom city

In order to be accepted at KTH as an exchange student, the applicant must be enrolled at a partner university, i.e. one with which KTH has an exchange agreement.

Exchange students are nominated by their home university but the final decision of acceptance is made by KTH and is based on the individual assessment of each application. A minimum requirement is that exchange students applying to KTH have completed at least two years of the educational programme at their home university, with grades above average.

Contact the International Office or equivalent at your home university for more information regarding exchange opportunities. It is the responsibility of the exchange students to ensure their eligibility for participation in an exchange programme.

Projects for exchange students

Exchange students can request to perform a final degree project/Master's thesis, at KTH. However, there is no service provided to match student requests with research projects at KTH and therefore students can not be guaranteed to be accepted for a project. A student who wants to carry out a project must contact a relevant research group or professor directly and make the arrangements with them. If you are accepted by the research group/professor, you should contact your International coordinator at KTH.

Internships

Internships are only available through special programmes; e.g students enrolled at the NUS Overseas Campus. Other students can not be assisted via KTH.

Free movers

There are limited possibilities to accept free movers (students who do not apply within an exchange agreement), mainly due to a difficult accommodation situation. Students with a BSc degree or equivalent may apply for our Master's programmes taught in English.

Quotes from evaluation reports of previous exchange students

KTH is a very good university and I am proud to study here and earn knowledge on a very high level. Swedes are open-minded and very helpful, which gives a new person the feeling of not being let alone. Tack!

The best experience was the overall quality and approach to teaching that KTH implements. The university incorporates a certain flexibility and freedom of choice, thus allowing the students to focus upon the learning itself and not simply aim to pass the exams. This was highly refreshing. Also, the beautiful main campus (particularly the library) and the overall atmosphere of KTH was great.

I don’t know if I was just lucky with the amazing city I chose, the great teachers who helped me and the good friends I made but anyway thank you very much. I will recommend this university and this city to anyone who asks me.

It has been the best year in my life and I hope to get the chance to do a PhD here. I really love this city and how things work here - so efficiently, so kindly.
