Cast Iron Machining for Next Generation Powertrain
Higher performance demands, tighter tolerances, and new material grades are reshaping what it means to machine cast iron reliably and at scale.
Project description
The next generation of powertrains sets higher demands on component performance. Material changes aimed at enhancing mechanical properties, along with stricter standards for surface finish and geometrical tolerances, lead to challenges when machining these parts. To ensure continued high productivity, machining of modern cast iron varieties must be further investigated.
Outcome
Improved process robustness, reduced tool wear, and better surface quality for cast iron components.
