Researchers from KTH, together with the association Vetenskap & Allmänhet, have recently published the book ”Mot framtidens energi – den osynliga revolutionen bakom eluttaget”. In the book, researchers from KTH's Energy Platform talk about known and lesser-known challenges and solutions for the energy of the future.

Christophe Duwig is Deputy Director of the Energy Platform at KTH, and one of the researchers in KTH Climate Action Centre's multidisciplinary research group. Here he answers some questions about the new book.

What can you read about in “”Mot framtidens energi – den osynliga revolutionen bakom eluttaget”?

”In the book, various researchers describe the parts they are experts in, so it has a great thematic breadth. There are everything from chapters with basic facts about what energy and electricity are, and how it works, to different types of energy from nuclear power, oil, hydrogen, biomass and more. There is a strong focus on the sustainable solutions of the future. We will always need energy, so we need to find forms that do not contribute to climate change or other negative consequences.”

“The book also shows why we need fossil fuels for a sustainable transition, what is required for renewable energy sources to have a greater impact in society, and why it is so difficult to break our dependence on oil and gas.”

How important is the energy issue for climate change?

“Energy from fossil fuels has created the climate changes we are now experiencing, so energy is absolutely central to solving this. But pretty much all societal challenges and sustainability goals are somehow linked to how we produce, transport and use energy. And the challenge is so big and complex that no one knows everything – we need to work together. There are no single solutions, but a network of solutions that interact. In order to achieve a change that is sustainable, a combination of using the right kind of techniques and also changing our behaviour is required.”
