Course development
EI2401 Advanced Microwave Engineering 7.5 credits
On this page, you can track the course's development over time. Once the course analysis is published, data for each course offering is displayed, including the number of registered students, course results, and planned improvements for the next session. All course syllabuses and course memos are shown on the page Archive.
The information can help prospective, current, and former students with course selection, or to follow up on their own participation. Teachers, course coordinators, examiners, program directors, and others can use the page as a resource for course development.
2026
TEFRM 2026-61097 ( Start date 13 Jan 2026, English )
Changes planned for the next course offering
Things that will change for next edition:
- We will re-work the circuit modelling lab a bit, for instance by providing an example to check the solution against. Also, we will give more time to the students to complete the circuit modelling lab.
- Communicate with the teacher of the parallel course (Field theory for guided waves) to reduce overloading the students during some weeks. The two teacher teams have already been in contact. We are also considering to have a joint first lecture of the two courses, since the content of that lecture is very similar.
- One issue during the course was a miscommunication with teacher attending exam. We will make sure that teacher is at exam early next time.
- We will consider moving some computer labs to an alternative software to CST to give a broader view of available tools to the students. One software that KTH has licenses to that is relevant is Ansys HFSS. This year, we had a workshop from Ansys to give the students a broader perspective, but we can migrate some labs as well.
- It was noted that the hands on lab for passive devices was still a bit short. We will extend it for the next course edition, adding additional devices to characterize.
- We are considering adding a hands on lab/project on active devices. The idea is to let the students design the matching circuits for a specified transistor amplifier, and then build the circuit.

Changes planned for the next course offering
Next year, we will introduce small adjustment based on the feedback of the first year. Generally, the course does not need big changes since the evaluation from the students is excellent.
