Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?

I finally opted to study Molecular Techniques in Life Sciences because it offers an important set of skills regarding molecular and computational biomedicine, which are crucial for novel research. Therefore, this master’s programme allows me to enhance my scientific career by providing access to a wide range of resources, expertise, and cutting-edge research facilities at KTH, Karolinska Institute and Stockholm University. The fact that it is a collaboration programme between these three prestigious institutions provides a diverse and interdisciplinary learning environment that stood out to me as the ideal choice for furthering my knowledge and skills in the field of biomedical sciences.

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?

The most significant difference from my previous studies is the international environment combined with the Nordic learning approach. During this last year I have met classmates from all different parts of the world, with diverse backgrounds and experiences that complement the studying path to a greater extent. The methodology is deeply emphasised by group and practical work rather than uniquely academic, which I prefer because it enables students to be better prepared for a future professional career.

How is student life in Stockholm?

Undoubtedly, the best part of the student life experience in Stockholm is the people you meet. Being surrounded by people from different backgrounds is crucial for self-growth because it provides different perspectives on daily life situations. The capital of Sweden is an important destination for many students worldwide, which makes it a perfect option to study a master's and easily socialise. Moreover, Stockholm is a beautiful city which integrates nature at its best. The activities nature provides are endless, adapting every time through different seasons. I love hiking and climbing, which are popular here.

What do you want to do after graduating?

After I graduate, I see myself pursuing a PhD in the biomedical field and staying in the academy for some years to do research. In Stockholm, many options are exciting to me and easy to access, thanks to the tight bond between the master's and SciLife Lab. Continuing the studies abroad is also possible thanks to the university's numerous connections. Additionally, I have met plenty of former programme students who decided to work in the pharma or data science industry after the master’s due to the versatility of possibilities that we are given.

What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?

There are many reasons I could use to encourage students to enrol to the KTH experience. Studying abroad brings many benefits regarding personal and educational development, which is essential for a proper scientific education. The institutions conforming to this programme offer a world-class quality education that, combined with the Swedish culture, provides you with a scientific experience like nowhere else: doing cutting-edge science while finding work-life balance. Moreover, KTH standards also highlight the importance of innovation and sustainability, which are key factors for a better future in the biomedical field. Although I could recommend the programme for its content in detail, as it has a very up-to-date curriculum, I would principally say that choosing these studies is a wise choice for the following reasons: for the people you meet, the professors you learn from, and the culture you experience and live. If you have any doubts or other concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me, professors, graduates, or other students; we will gladly help!
