Gia Destouni elected as a corresponding member of the Academy of Athens

Confirmation by Presidential Decree of the election of Professor Georgia (Gia) Destouni as a corresponding member of the Academy of Athens.

The election of Georgia Destouni , Professor of Hydrology and Water Resources at Stockholm University, and guest professor at SEED, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), as a corresponding member of the Academy of Athens -among Greek scientists residing abroad- was confirmed by a Presidential Decree published in the Greek Government Gazette as a result of her election by the General Assembly of the Academy of Athens to the Chair of “Hydrology’ in its First Section of Sciences, during the session of October 12, 2023.

Her research interests include hydroclimate, water resource availability and security, diffuse pollution of water in the environment, and the interactions and shifts of water resources with climate change and various human activity developments. She is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, and the US National Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and of the Stellenbosch Institute of Advanced Study in South Africa.
