Eligibility and application

Interested in applying for housing through KTH? Your chances of securing accommodation and the process depend on your type of studies at KTH and whether you pay tuition fees. Please note that we cannot offer housing to all students.

Apply for housing through KTH

You can soon apply for housing. The application is open from 1 May at 12:00 noon until 31 May at 23:59 (CEST).

  • If you are a fee-paying master's, bachelor's, or joint master's programme student, you will find the application link here when registration opens.
  • If you are an exchange student (including double degree and dual master), or SAP student, you should apply through the application link in your Welcome Letter, which you will receive by email in early May.

Please read the eligibility information below regarding your student category before applying.

1. Tuition fee-paying students doing a full master's or bachelor's program

Housing service eligibility

Tuition-fee-paying students doing a full master's or bachelor's program (including scholarship holders) are offered accommodation for the first academic year through KTH Housing. See all conditions for KTH Housing .

Application and confirmation

A link to the registration form is available on this page 1 May – 31 May. Your chances of getting one of your preferences are the same no matter when you apply in May. After filling out the form, one time only please, you will get instructions via email on how to create an account in our booking system Mobility Online. You must create one (1) account and follow through with all necessary steps when asked to do so to qualify for one of KTH's rooms or apartments.

Make sure to check your e-mails, including your SPAM folder, and follow the instructions given throughout the whole application process in May-June.

The application process will be in the following order:

  1. KTH Housing post a link to our online form on this page (1 May)

  2. You fill out the form once

  3. You receive a confirmation email with a link to Mobility Online’s registration webpage for new users. Follow the instructions and create a Mobility Online (MO) housing account. 

  4. You complete personal data

  5. You select several room preferences and save – before 30 May

  6. KTH Housing check applications and start booking – 1 June

  7. You confirm or reject the housing offer in MO – within 2 days of receiving it

  8. You receive the first rent invoice and complete payment – within 5 days of receiving it

  9. You download the contract, sign it and upload to MO – June

  10. KTH Housing signs contract, prints and prepare keys. – June & July

  11. You arrive to KTH Entré and check in with valid ID (passport) - August

NOTE! In case you have problems filling out the application when you follow the instructions, please e-mail KTH Housing Office housingoffice@kth.se  before 28 May and include a screenshot of the issue if possible.

Make one application only. If you need help changing any details in your application or account email housingoffice@kth.se  and we will fix it within 1-2 workdays.

August 2025

If you plan on starting your studies at KTH in August 2025, the housing application is open in May 2025.

The first installment of the tuition fees must be paid before applying since the applications can only be approved if the payment is made.

2. Joint master's students

Housing service eligibility

Joint master's students (including EU, EEA and Swiss citizens) in the following programmes can apply for housing for their first academic year at KTH.

  • All EIT Digital, EIT InnoEnergy and EIT Urban Mobility programmes

  • Computer Simulations for Science and Engineering

  • Decentralized Smart Energy Systems

  • Security and Cloud Computing

  • Innovative Sustainable Energy Engineering (Nordic Five Tech)

  • Polymer Technology (Nordic Five Tech)

August 2025

For those who plan on starting their studies at KTH in August 2025, the application will be open in May 2025.

Before applying you must have received a formal Letter of Admission from your program at KTH.

3. Exchange students

Housing service eligibility

Exchange students (including double degree and dual master exchange students) doing one or two semesters at KTH are not prioritized and the chances of getting an offer are small. You can still apply for housing through KTH and be offered accommodation if and when there is availability. We highly recommend all exchange students search for housing on your own  in addition to applying.

Application

Remember to tick the checkbox for accommodation when applying for exchange studies at KTH (in the system Mobility Online). If you forgot to check the box, contact your exchange coordinator.

All incoming exchange students starting August 2025 will be sent a welcome letter from KTH via email in May with the housing application link. Remember to check your spam inbox. Please make sure to fill in the application form without delay and follow through with all steps required in Mobility Online before the deadline stated in the email in order to have a chance to housing through KTH Housing.

Start date on the contracts will be 1 August 2025. Contracts for one semester ends 8 January 2026 (including that night). Contracts for two semesters ends 30 June 2026. Check the dates for the Academic year 2025-2026 .

4. Other types of students

Housing service eligibility

Non tuition fee-paying students (citizens of EU, EEA or Switzerland), other than those covered in group 1,2 or 3, can not apply for accommodation via KTH. Your eligibility is not affected by if you are doing a full master's or bachelor's programme, are admitted to courses only, or doing an internship.

Due to a change in Swedish law limiting universites possibility to rent out housing effective from January 2023, we can no longer offer accommodation to this student group. We recommend looking for housing on your own .
