All students at KTH are insured through personal injury insurance on KTH’s premises and during travel to and from KTH. However, it is crucial to make sure you have additional medical insurance coverage in case of an emergency or if you fall ill during an off-campus activity.
Recommended insurance coverage
We recommend that all international students have complete insurance cover to avoid high costs in case of an unexpected incident or illness. Comprehensive insurance should include:
personal injury (outside school hours)
medical care cover
dental care cover
liability cover (if you are subject to a claim for damages)
legal expenses cover (if you need to claim damages)
home transport (in case of serious injury)
private property cover (luggage, mobile phone, laptop, etc.)
Entitled to additional insurance through KTH?
In addition to the personal injury insurance that applies to all students, KTH provides additional insurance to certain student groups. To find out if you are entitled to additional insurance through KTH, click on your category in the list below. If you find that some components are missing in your insurance to be fully covered, we advise you to purchase them privately before arrival.
(i.e. a tuition fee paying student or a student holding a KTH scholarship)
If you are a tuition fee paying student admitted to a KTH master's or bachelor's programme or a student holding a KTH Scholarship, KTH provides you with a comprehensive insurance called FAS+.
Please note that SI-scholarship holders are also covered by FAS+, however it is administered through the Swedish Institute.
Changed fee status and prolonged studies
If your fee status changes during your studies you will not be covered by FAS+ and are strongly recommended to find out if you need to purchase additional insurance coverage for your remaining stay in Sweden. For students who have not completed their studies within stipulated time frame, request of continued insurance coverage through KTH is assessed on a case by case basis.
Apart from the personal injury insurance that applies to all students at KTH, master's students from an EU/EEA country who are exempted from paying tuition fees are not provided with any additional insurance coverage through KTH. Insurance coverage needs to be purchased by the students themselves.
European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
Students from EU/EEA member countries should bring the European Health Insurance Card, filled out by the social insurance office in their home country. With this card you are entitled to the same standard patient fees as Swedish citizens for emergency health care and certain types of non-emergency health care. For more details please consult with the social insurance office in your home country. Bring the card when you seek medical care.
In addition to the personal insurance that applies to all students at KTH, your programme might offer additional insurance coverage. If the programme does not provide any additional insurance, the insurance coverage needs to be purchased by the students themselves. For further information, please turn to the coordinating university of your programme.
