Funding for degree project abroad within Europe

Here is a list of additional funding opportunities if you want to do a degree project abroad in Europe.

Financing on this page are funded by the European Union.

If you carry out your degree project in the EU, you can apply for an Erasmus scholarship, which is usually granted to everyone who applies. As a student, you may receive a scholarship for up to 12 months per level of study (bachelor’s and master’s level). So you can go several times, staying at least two months at a time. The scholarship is granted for the days you spend in the country to carry out your project. KTH pay you 70 per cent of the scholarship when you leave for the project, and the remaining 30 per cent after you have returned home.

Switzerland and the United Kingdom

As Switzerland and the United Kingdom are not part of Erasmus+, KTH cannot grant scholarships for internships or degree work outside of agreed exchange places in these countries. This situation is due to budget changes within the Erasmus programme.

If you want to apply for the Swiss scholarship (SEMP), you should apply for an exchange place for studies (e.g. project course). Contact your international coordinator for more information.

For double degree students

For double degree students, the following applies to degree work and internships abroad: To be eligible for the Erasmus scholarship, you must go to a company or university in a different country than the country you are going on an exchange from.

Example: If you have studied at a French university and come to KTH for double degree studies, you cannot go to France and receive the Erasmus scholarship for an internship or degree project.

Language tests for Erasmus+ scholarship receivers

The European Commission requires that all students who receive an Erasmus+ scholarship must take the two OLS language tests that are sent out before and after their stay abroad. The language tests evaluates your knowledge in every language area and is done in the language of your exchange studies, internship or degree project. The students who have level B2, C1 or C2 in the first language assessment has the opportunity to attend a language course of study or training in the national language, as long as the language is included in the OLS system. The course that is offered is voluntary, but to get the last part of the scholarship both tests has to be completed and the automatically sent out evaluation.

Extra support for students with disabilities

Students with an Erasmus scholarship who, due to permanent disability or illness, need educational support or particular adaptations during their time abroad can apply for grants to cover additional costs that arise. Grants can be used for up to 100 per cent coverage of the additional costs that occur in connection with the stay abroad.

Additional costs mean the increased costs that the university or the individual student receives and which are not financed in any other way, such as transport, teaching materials, housing, assistant/companion, physiotherapy and medical examination in the host country.
