- If your exchange period is extended
If you are awarded an exchange place within the EU, you can apply for an Erasmus scholarship, which is usually granted to all applicants. Only students allocated an exchange place through KTH's exchange agreement within Erasmus + can be given the Erasmus scholarship. The scholarship can be granted several times during the studies, but for a maximum of 12 months per study level (bachelor's, master's or doctoral student level) and at least two months at a time.
If you as a student have special needs, there are funds to apply for to bring your support to the exchange destination. You can find more information under the section Inclusion support .
Scholarship amount for Erasmus+ exchange studies
The scholarship is calculated per day and is given for your study time at the partner university. The scholarship is also provided for the time you stay at a partner university before the start of studies if this time is mandatory, for example, in connection with intensive courses or introduction. The scholarship amount varies depending on your study destination. 70 per cent of the scholarship amount is paid on departure. The rest is paid on return. The scholarship application must be completed before the exchange starts. You will find instructions on this page under the section Scholarship applications for Erasmus+ .
Students without EU citizenship should note that a visa may be required. Read more about the rights and responsibilites connected to the scholarship in the Erasmus Student Charter (pdf 1.6 MB) . KTH has the possibility to grant scholarships to countries outside the EU. Contact your international coordinator for more information about your destination.
Scholarship applications for Erasmus+
When you have been allocated an exchange spot can log in to Mobility-Online and follow these listed steps to apply for a Erasmus+ scholarship:
- Start by filling in the exact semester dates and language of instruction for your exchange in Mobility-Online and stating whether you have participated in an Erasmus mobility before. You should also fill in whether you want to apply for inclusion support.
- In the next step, you will print and sign your scholarship application (Grant Agreement). Then, you will scan and upload the document in Mobility-Online again. The Erasmus coordinator at KTH will then sign the document you uploaded to the system.
- In the final step, you will fill out a Digital Learning Agreement (DLA) in Mobility-Online. This is a plan for the exchange studies, which will then be digitally signed by you, the person responsible at your school and the receiving university.
Erasmus Digital Learning Agreement and Scholarship application - step by step
Any changes in your Digital Learning Agreement must be made in a revised Digital Learning Agreement, which should be signed in the same way as the original.
Preparations for the second payment of the Erasmus Scholarship
For the second installment of the scholarship to be done at homecoming you must:
- Ensure that the Digital Learning agremeent is signed by you, international coordinator at your academic school and the host university.
- Upload a Certificate of Attendance, (as one pdf document), signed by the host university, an exchange evaluation and a language test.
If you extend or cancel your stay abroad
If you are extending or interrupt your stay abroad you should notify your international coordinator and the person responsible for the installment of the scholarship. Do not forget to apply for extension at least one month before the regular period is over, since extensions are not granted retroactively.

Inclusion support
Within the Erasmus program, there is the possibility of applying for inclusion support (top-up). Below are the conditions that allow you to apply for inclusion support.
Support for Erasmus students with disabilities
If you are studying abroad with Erasmus support and have a permanent disability, you will receive an extra top-up in addition to the regular scholarship amount. Permanent disability also includes disability caused by physical or mental illness.
As an applicant, you must first show a certificate from a coordinator for pedagogical support at KTH (Funka). Examples of disabilities can be chronic diseases, dyslexia, deafness, blindness, mobility impairment, or neuropsychiatric disabilities (for example, ADHD, autism spectrum, Tourette syndrome).
Funka - compensatory support for students with disabilities
Semester-long mobility (60-360 days): Top-up of 250 euros per month.
You apply for a top-up for disability in the Erasmus scholarship application. Select mental or physical disabilities. KTH will then contact you with more information about the necessary documentation.
Suppose additional costs arise during your stay abroad related to your disability that exceed what a top-up can cover. In that case, you can apply for a grant for up to 100 percent coverage of the additional costs. Additional costs mean the increased expenses that you as a student or the higher education institution have that are not financed in another way, such as transport, teaching materials, accommodation, assistant/accompanist or medical follow-up in the host country.
If you want to apply for funds to cover actual costs due to your disability, you should first contact your international coordinator. Do this in good time for more information on how to apply.
Supplement for Erasmus students with children
Suppose you are doing an Erasmus exchange and have minor children. In that case, you will receive an extra top-up in addition to the regular scholarship amount, regardless of whether the child accompanies you on the exchange.
Semester-long mobility (60-360 days): Top-up of 250 euros per month.
You apply for a top-up for children in your Erasmus scholarship application. Indicate the option travel with children in your application. In addition to this, you also need to contact erasmus-plus@kth.se and attach a family certificate from the Swedish Tax Agency that proves that you have children.

Outgoing students with protection status in Sweden
This option includes you with previous or ongoing refugee status according to the Refugee Convention or as an alternative protection beneficiary according to national rules. The option may include you who have or had a residence permit as an individual needing protection according to previous regulations. Other residence permits are not covered.
Criteria and certificates:
- Previous or current protection status is confirmed by a decision from the Swedish Migration Agency.
- This certificate should be emailed to erasmus-plus@kth.se for review, who will then decide regarding the application.
You are applying for a top-up for students with protection status in your Erasmus scholarship application. Select cultural differences. You will then be contacted with more information about the necessary documentation.
Recommended language test
Before your exchange, you are recommended to take a language test via Erasmus+ Online Language Support, OLS. The test is aimed at you who will participate in an exchange that lasts at least 14 days on-site. You test your language level and can then take one or more online courses in any language. You can also do an optional test at the end of your exchange period. The language test is diagnostic and aims to identify which language level you are at. The assessment follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), where level A1 is beginner and C2 is advanced level.
You should take the test in the language that is mainly spoken in the country of your exchange. The levels offered are A1-C2. The level of the questions is continuously adjusted based on your answers. When the test is finished, you will be told what level you are at according to the CEFR, per part and in total.
To access the language test, you will receive a link from KTH. You need to create an account using the link to proceed to the language test. The link will be sent out when your Erasmus scholarship application has been approved. If you need help with the platform, you can email erasmus-plus@kth.se .
If your exchange period is extended
Suppose your expected exchange period is extended beyond the dates specified in your Grant Agreement (for example, due to an examination period or compulsory course period at your exchange university). In that case, the following applies from the spring semester of 2025:
• You must, during your exchange period (before completing your exchange studies), notify a date change to erasmus-plus@kth.se . KTH then updates the information in your Grant Agreement.
• Your extended exchange period is then added, given that there are EU funds that allow this.
If you have not notified KTH of a change of dates before your completed exchange studies, the extra days (according to the Certificate of Attendance) will instead be considered zero-grant, i.e. non-funded days, for which you will not receive a scholarship.
