The Architectures of Interdisciplinarity Design Studio seeks a holistic synthesis of technological investigation and design, using projective and case-based learning to research the socio-technological implications of design strategies.
Emphasis is placed on developing methodologies for testing projected proposals and for evaluating the relative value of quantitative and qualitative modelling.
The third semester of the studio will introduce the main brief and site, as well as related in-depth research topics. Design work will be paralleled with research and documentation of relevant findings.
Students who have completed this course should be able to
• Formulate and execute design strategies that employ advanced use of technology and interdisciplinary resources
• Identify and account for the key aspects of the main design brief in terms of site and program, as well as spatial, social, technical, structural, contextual and environmental requirements on a general level
• Demonstrate the use of digital fabrication specified in the course proramme for developing and testing architectural design and for making informed design choices
• Explain and evaluate the key issues during conceptual development of the main design brief
• Communicate critical issues within the team and with any external consultants
