The course includes 1) A series of 8 lectures concerning the history of knowledge production in architecture, reserach methodology, in general, and in relation to current developments in practice based research in architecture and design. 2) In parallel with the lectures students will work individulally, and in seminars, with a paper assignment and with developing an individual port-folio (which may include designed projects, taught courses, written articles etc). Students can also if appropriate design a port-folio with works that are not from one's own production. 3) In the two concluding sessions the resulting port-folois and papers will be presented and discussed.

Intended learning outcomes *

To provide students with basic tools for developing critical methods for analysis of and reflection on architecture, aiming for the production of new and significant knowledge for architectural design. Partial aims with the course: 1) To attain an overview of the history of knowledge production in architecture 2) To attain an overview of research methodology, in particular in relation to practice-based architecture and design research. 3) To develop an individual port-folio with a selection of works produced by the student. 4) To pull out and develop threads from the inidividual port-folio. 5) To write an account of what kind of new knowledge that the individual port-folio might produce, and how to proceed towards that end.
