Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

Environmental applications using geographic information systems for analysis and problem solving concerning a range of environmental problems with a spatial dimension. A wide range of environmental issues can be chosen within the scope of the course, related to natural resources and ecosystem services. Examples of methods and tools with a spatial dimension that will be applied are landscape ecological and hydrologic models, models of land use change and environmental decision support systems.

Intended learning outcomes

The course will provide the students with:

- Enhanced knowledge and skills in use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for different environmental applications with a spatial dimension

- Knowledge and experience of independent project work and problem solving in the interface between natural science, technology and decision support for the students to be capable of independent use of GIS for solving environmental problems.

Course Disposition

Summer course with lectures and discussions during one week, independent work with project task during summer, follow-up during one week, including oral presentation. Number of participants is limited. The course starts in June, schedule decided together with participants.

Prerequisistes: AE2502 Natural Resources Management, AE2505 Water Systems and Geographic Information or equivalent.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
