Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course includes a project work, which starts with the formulation of a project plan in cooperation with the supervisor. The project plan contains description of background, objectives, expected results and time schedule. The student performs the project work according to the plan and documents the work in a written report, which includes introduction, literature overview, description of the methods, results, discussion and conclusions. The project will be presented and defended in a public seminar.

Intended learning outcomes

Student will be able to:

  • apply the relevant knowledge and skills expected within geomatics on a given problem
  • analyze and discuss different issues and to solve larger problems on basic level within geomatics discipline
  • reflect, evaluate and critically review own and other’s technical and scientific results
  • document and present his/her work
  • indentify own need of additional knowledge and take responsibility for own knowledge development

Specific prerequisites

At least 120 credits courses within S program and Geographic IT program courses or equivalent. The examiner decides if the student has adequate depth of knowledge in the particular area before the Degree project begins.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

The thesis work can be carried out in KTH or externally, even abroad. It can be performed individually or in cooperation with another student. If there are two students working on the same project, the work performed by each student must meet criteria for individual work.
