Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

Philosophical studies and research at KTH are directed at issues related to technology and the technological sciences. This is a broad research area, since there are many and varied points of contact between philosophy and technology. Epistemology, philosophy of science, decision theory, logics and moral philosophy are among the branches of philosophy that are covered. Issues of the role of technology in society are also part of the subject. Philosophical studies at KTH have a strong emphasis on interdisciplinarity and on co-operations with empirical sciences.

The master project is performed either individually or by two students. In the latter case, it should be possible to distinguish between the contributions of each individual. For the individual student, the thesis work should correspond to 20 weeks. It should result in a written report

Intended learning outcomes

The master project should develop the student’s ability to work independently, to apply philosophical method to problems related to technology, and to write a report and make oral presentations.

The student should have a permit from the respective program to start working on the exam paper.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
