The aim of the course is to acquaint the student with biotechnological applications in different areas of the society. Basic knowledge within sustainability is provided to allow for reflection on the role of biotechnology in the society and its impact on humans and the environment. The student will also train searching and reviewing information as well as reporting orally and in writing, skills needed in the working environment in which the engineer is active.

Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course provides knowledge about patents, intellectual property rights and how to create a business plan for the commercialization of inventions.

Intended learning outcomes

After passing the course, the student has achieved the following objectives:

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge about Intellectual Property Rights, branding, innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Demonstrate knowledge about opportunities to develop biotechnological innovations into products and startup companies.

  • INL1 - Homework 1, 1.5 credits, grading scale: P, F

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

Active participations in the lectures, seminars and the exercises.
