The course consists of lectures, practical assignments and laboratory sessions. The course covers such areas as: computers, computer techniques, computer communication, networks, Internet's structure, web-programming, protocols, client-server-techniques, information searches, information management, encryption and basic data base modelling.

Intended learning outcomes
After completed course, you shall be able to
- describe how computers communicate over a network
- work in a Unix environment
- describe and create simple XML files
- design (and write SQL questions for) simple databases
- describe security problems for computers and computer programs and a little about what can be done about them
- use a modern server pages language (PHP) to write simple dynamic
- webb pages hooked up to a database.

The course literature will be announced at the web page for the course at least 2 weeks before the course starts. Last year "Webbprogrammering med PHP" by Viktor Jonsson was used.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

- LAB2 - Laboratory Work, 1.5 credits, grading scale: P, F
- TEN1 - Examination, 3.0 credits, grading scale: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F
Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
