Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

  • Practice in understanding and speaking Japanese in everyday situations
  • Pronunciation and intonation
  • Grammar and vocabulary. 70 kanji-characters
  • Practice translation of simple texts from Japanese to Swedish and vice versa
  • Writing exercises, for example letters and simple everyday notes

Intended learning outcomes

After the course, the student should be able to:

  • use the spoken and written language in simple everyday situations (level A1)
  • understand and give an accurate account (in Swedish) of information from different elementary texts
  • give a short, individually prepared oral presentation in the target language (level A2/B1)
  • use an ideogram dictionary to find unfamiliar ideograms
  • translate simple sentences from Japanese to Swedish and vice versa.

  • ANN1 - OralProficiency, 1.5 credits, grading scale: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F
  • TEN1 - Language Proficiency, 3.0 credits, grading scale: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

Other requirements for final grade

75% attendance. Oral proficiency (ANN1; 1,5 credits) mid-term tests (KONA; 1,5 credits) and written final examination (TEN1; 3 credits).
