Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The thesis work should consider an interesting and timely problem within the field of communication networks. The thesis project can be performed internally at the Laboratory for Communication Networks, or externally in collaboration with a company, other university or governmental institution.

The focus of the work should be on investigation and analysis of the problem. The extent of the work should be such that it is clear that the student has performed at least five months worth of full-time work.

As an important part of the thesis work is the careful specification and schedule for the task, and a search and study of relevant literature. The thesis work is presented both as a written and an oral report.

The aim of the course is to develop the student’s ability to independently carry out and report a project work within the area of communication networks.

After the course, the student is expected to be able to

    * formulate a scientific research idea associated with scientific theories and/or earlier research within the area.

    * make appropriate choices of scientific method, motivate them, and use the chosen methods in a systematic and competent way.

    * formulate relevant and well-founded conclusions with reference to earlier research.

    * present the work in both written and oral form, in a form consistent with the practice of the scientific community.
