Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

Course description/Content: In the course we identify the principal chemical and physical mechanisms and rate determining step(s) of the key processes in chemical pulp production. We also describe the stoichiometry and kinetics of the relevant chemical reactions during alkaline pulping, selected bleaching processes and black liquor combustion. In addition we will be modeling the processes taking into consideration the main mechanisms, rate determining step(s), stoichiometry and chemical kinetics and compare the model predictions with actual results obtained at different operating conditions.

Intended learning outcomes

Learning objectives:

At the end of this course, you will have a fundamental understanding of the importance and interaction of heat and mass transfer, fluid flow and chemical kinetics on the key processes of chemical pulp production.
