Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

After completing the course the participant should be abel to:

-analyse how pupling processes affect fibre properties

-motivate how fibre properties such as flexibility, fibre strenght, fibre-fibre joints and fibre dimensions affect the paper process and paper properties

-analyse and interpret different paper properties and their relationship to the end product properties

-evaluate different analytical methods and interpret differences in results with respect to the approximations used

The teaching is in the form of seminars of in total eight meetings. The participants will have to spend about 16 hours of reading and work between each seminar. The participants are acquired to use enough time to get information in advance about the subject in question for each seminar so a meaningful and procuctive discussion will be possible.

Intended learning outcomes

The literature course in Pulp Technology is adapted for PhD students in Pulp Technology and related areas such as Fibre Technology and Wood Chemistry. The course wiill provide an advanced understanding and deep knowledge of the relationship between pulping processes and the properties of fibre and end products. The course will also give an insight into the informaton that can be obtained from the analytical tools that routinely are used to characterise pulp with respect to fibre and en product properties.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

The examination consists of by an individually chosen theme or subject that is reearched by Treviewing the literature. A witten summary and an oral presentation are required together with evaluation of the course. The seminar meetings are compulsory.
