Course contents
The course comprises approximately 108 full-time study hours in the form of science seminars, which are held once a week. The seminars target current trends in the omics field where both the doctoral student's own research results, and results published on leading research are presented, critically examined and discussed, and given feedback. The course literature follows current trends in various omics fields, e.g. transcriptomics, proteomics, genomics, microbiomics and metabolomics. The doctoral students present their own research and papers within the field, and selects, presents, interprets and critically reviews own and leading research articles in the field, and provides feedback on each other's presentations. The course is the first of four courses in the seminar series.
Intended learning outcomes
- show both broad and specialized knowledge in the scientific scope of the course, and about the overall subject area of biotechnology
- demonstrate the ability to present pedagogically, critically examine and discuss their own and others' scientific work in the subject of biotechnology with emphasis on the scientific scope of the course
- demonstrate the ability to acquire knowledge of academic authorship and the international scientific publishing landscape with relevance to the scientific scope of the course
- show the ability to identify, discuss and reflect on ethics and sustainability aspects in the research that is discussed within the framework of the scientific scope of the course

The literature consists of published articles and the doctoral students' own work, and is assigned separately for each individual session.
Examination and completion
If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

Other requirements for final grade
Active participation at 70% of the meetings, which, in addition to being present and actively participating in discussions, also includes giving two project presentations, two literature presentations, acting as an opponent at two sessions, and actively acting host at two sessions.
