Course contents *

  1. Attendance in 10 one-hour seminar covering research in a wide range of chemical science and engineering. Each seminar is to be followed by a discussion involving the lecturer and the audience (graduate students).
  2. Preparation prior to seminar. Each lecturer provides one or two review articles, which should be read before the seminar.
  3. Writing of abstracts for each seminar. Each seminar should be analyzed from the following perspectives: (a) General importance and implication. (b) What can be useful in own research in terms of methodology and way of general thinking? What immediate problems can be solved? What are the possible directions for collaborative research? (c) What are the potential interactions with otherareas covered int eh course? The latter can only be dealt with after listening to all ten seminars.
  4. Writing a synopsis describing/explaining the benefits from collaboration with other groups based on the information provided during the course. The purpose of this exercise is to synthesize the suggestions/ideas brought up for individual lectures under items 3b and c.

Course Disposition

Seminars: Should be held once a month starting in September and ending in June, i.e. annually 10 times. A program for each year is prepared in due time during the preceding summer. The bulk of the programme is lectures held by the professors at the School of Chemical Science & Engineering. The lectures should have a popular science character. One or two preparatory review articles and a pdf file with the lecture slides are provided.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

Examination: The student have to attend 10 lectures. These lectures can be distributed over a time period of 2 academic years. Each pricipal supervisor will examine the written report and make the approval (Or ask for further work). They will report to a coordinator (Ulf Gedde) who will make the formal approval and reporting.
