Content and learning outcomes
Course contents
Intended learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to give the students good knowledge of digital subsystems and systematic methods for analysing and designing communications systems. The aim is also to give basic knowledge of how to describe digital systems in a high level design language.
After completing this course students are to :
- be able to analyse and design combinatory systems
- be able to analyse and design sequential systems
- be able to describe the behaviour of digital components in a high level design language
- be able to implement such descriptions in programmable circuits
- be trained to couple and test digital circuits
- be able to read and understand information concerning digital electronics from various sources of information

Examination and completion
If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
Grading scale
Examination
- LAB1 - Laboratory Work, 4.5 credits, grading scale: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F
- TEN1 - Examination, 3.0 credits, grading scale: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F
Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
Other requirements for final grade
Passed written exam (TEN1; 3 cr.) credit rate A-F
Passed lab work (LAB1; 4,5 cr.) credit rate A-F
In total based on the parts as above, credit rate A-F
Opportunity to complete the requirements via supplementary examination
Opportunity to raise an approved grade via renewed examination

Ethical approach
- All members of a group are responsible for the group's work.
- In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used.
- In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
