Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

This course gives theoretical knowledge about the role and the importance that transport of goods has for the logistic system in a producing company. That means a description of the requirements of the transports that the company has, such as range, structure, managed and technical solutions. The participants will also be given knowledge of how transport services are produced as well as how the market for these services looks like. The importance of the information technology in transport of goods will also be described. The transport policy of the state and its consequences for transport of goods is presented when it comes to economic and environmental issues.

Intended learning outcomes

This course will give the participants basic knowledge about transport of goods based on three perspectives:

  • Demand for transport of goods. What forces a continuously greater demand for these services?
  • Offer and production of goods. What does the market look like that offers these services?
  • The role of the state when it comes to the connection between transport of goods and the infrastructure.

Lectures, seminars, study visits and project work.

Specific prerequisites

University studies of at least 180 credits (Swedish hp) and documented proficiency in Swedish B and English A or equivalent. In addition knowledge in Basic logistics, 7.5hp.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
