Course contents

This course addresses the main elements of the construction process: Laws and regulations, parties involved, types of contracts and compensation, the selection of and rules regarding various types of tenders.
The course also covers basic aspects of contract law as well as leadership and communication.

Intended learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student shall be able to:

  • Describe the various procedures in the building process, as well as the laws and requirements that affect it
  • Describe the different parties in the building process and indicate their work tasks
  • Describe and analyse various contract forms
  • Describe and analyse various methods of compensation
  • Identify and analyse different types of procurements
  • Explain the importance of various leadership roles and communication styles

Students in year 2 of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering programmes Constructional Engineering and Design or Engineering and Economics specialising in Constructional Engineering and Design.
