Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course consists partly of a series of lectures that describe tools and environments used to develop distributed systems, partly of a project where students in smaller groups define, implement and analyze a distributed system.

Intended learning outcomes

The students shall after the course:

  • be able to describe function and usage of different tools and environments used in implementing distributed systems
  • have the ability to use appropriate tools to implement a distributed system
  • evaluate performance and  limitations of a distributed system
  • analyze a distributed system with respect to scalability and robustness.

Literature and preparations

Specific prerequisites

Courses in distributed systems, for example ID2201, ID2203 and ID2210.

The course is open only to students following the TDISM program.

Recommended prerequisites

The course requires good knowledge in the theoretical aspects of distributed systems, networking technology and programming.

Examination and completion

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.

Examination is based on written exam, compulsory attendance, delivery and presentation of assignments.
