This course gives an understanding of the context and the environment for companies within the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sphere. This is a course for anyone who sees their future in ICT: as an entrepreneur, an engineer, a venture capitalist, a policy-maker, or as a scholar. We will critical examine different aspects of ICT to understand different preconditions in the ICT-sphere. We will not work with developing business-models or business-plans for ICT-based enterprises.
During the course we will discuss conditions that affect companies operating within ICT, such as globalization, privatization, de-regulations, different types of miliuex that host ICT-clusters. We will map out players and their places in different value-chains, and we will cover cutting edge technology within ICT as well as security and open source approaches in the development of the technology. We will use Harvard- and Stanford-cases as a point of departure for our discussions. We will bring protégés of the cases and discussed and guests from different fields related to ICT who bring a variety of perspectives of what has happened, what is going on right now, and what will be the future for ICT-enterprises.
