Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

The course is designed as a seminar series which requires the active participation of those taking part in it. The dialogue seminars consist of five whole-day seminars. As preparation for each seminar the participant reads a classical text of two kinds before writing a reflection about teaching experience in many different contexts. At the seminar each student is given the possibility to read the text aloud for the other participants. Thereafter, a discussion follows where each student, in turn, is asked to give his or her comments. The reflection is then made analogously to others' concrete experiences. Metaphors and analogies to fine arts such as literature, theatre and music which provide new perspectives and widen the experience. The analogous thinking has the advantage, when necessary, to create distance from personal experiences and enable collective reflection.

Intended learning outcomes

After the seminar, the participant should be able to:

  • Develop a method for reflection on teaching experience.
  • Investigate conditions of making experience reliable.
  • Contribute to building knowledge based upon the experience
  • Formulate problems starting from dilemmas and paradoxes
  • Develop the ability to listen carefully and make distinctions
  • Develop a reflective language through analogies
  • Develop a foundation for one's own actions.
