The course comprises the reading of simple texts, writing exercises, listening comprehension and simple dialogues with an emphasis on everyday vocabulary and expressions. Basic grammar exercises and pronunciation practice of Brazilian Portuguese is also included. Facts about Brazil, its culture, society and technological development.

Intended learning outcomes
The expected learning outcomes for the course mainly refer to the levels A1/A2 according to CEFR, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
On completion of the course, the student should, in addition to what is specified in courses at the lower level, be able to:
