The course includes the reading of simple texts, written exercises, listening comprehension and simple dialogues with an emphasis on everyday vocabulary and expressions. Grammar exercises and practice on Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation are also included. Facts about Brazil, its culture, society and technological development.

Intended learning outcomes
The expected learning outcomes for the course mainly refer to the level A2 according to CEFR, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
On completion of the course, the student should, in addition to what is specified in courses at a lower level, be able to:

understand the main content in everyday conversation and short, clear messages (A2)
Reading comprehension
understand and explain information from different texts (A2)
identify facts from authentic texts (A2/B1)
Oral and written skills
use the language in speech and writing in everyday situations and simple work-related situations (A2)

University entry requirements. Completion and pass of Portuguese A1 for Engineers, an equivalent older course, or the equivalent knowledge demonstrated in a compulsory placement test taken before applying for the course.
