Intended learning outcomes
The expected learning outcomes for the course mainly refer to the level B2 according to CEFR, Common European Framework of Reference for Language.
On completion of the course, the student should, in addition to what is specified in courses at lower levels, be able to:
Listening comprehension
- understand conversation and oral presentations of some length on familiar topics also in a formal and advanced language (B2)
- follow an argumentation in a specialised language provided that the topic is fairly familiar (B2)
Reading comprehension
- understand and present the contents of authentic texts, including argumentations, within different fields such as society and science (B2)
- read and understand long and complicated source texts within his/her technical speciality (B2)
Oral production
- give an individually prepared presentation on a subject linked to technology, society and/or science (B2)
- explain a standpoint and discuss advantages and disadvantages with different alternatives (B2)
Conversation and oral interaction
- participate in discussions connected to studies, society and science (B2)
- take active part in discussions and be able to explain and defend his/her opinions on well-known topics (B2)
Writing
- write clear and detailed texts dealing with society, science and technology (B2)
- compile arguments from different sources and write investigative texts and reports (B2)

General entry requirements. Completed and passed Swedish B1, equivalent older course, or the equivalent knowledge displayed in a compulsory placement test taken before signing up for the course.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
