The main part of the degree project course consists of independently carrying out a scientifically based investigation assignment, resulting in a written thesis. The question should be clearly linked to the subject area represented by the chosen technical specialisation. Particular attention will be paid to the integration of economics and management on the one hand and the subject of the engineering specialisation on the other.
The results are to be reported both in a written report and at an oral presentation. The students should also review and discuss the work of other students, orally and in writing.
As a support, the department offers continuous supervision and a series of seminars throughout the degree project. The continuous discussions of the degree project, in individual talks with supervisors and in seminars, is an important part of the course.
After passing the degree project course, the student should be able to:
1. Independently identify, formulate and analyse a problem at the interface between industrial economics and the subject of the chosen engineering specialisation,
2. Outline the scientific basis, proven experience and research methods of the technology area,
3. Justify his or her choice of method based on the question at hand, and expected results,
4. Identify their own information needs and independently find the information and acquire the knowledge needed to solve the problem,
5. Reflect on, evaluate and critically discuss their own results and results from other degree projects,
6. Document and present the work orally and in writing, meeting requirements for structure, contents, presentation, formal contents, style and writing,
7. Plan the work considering requirements of time and other resources.
