The course aims at giving an understanding of production strategies in different kinds of companies and industries. Particular consideration is dedicated to the issues that arise when the boundaries of many industrial and service companies become more blurred due to the increased importance of networks. The network based view has implications on product development, manufacturing, supply management, as well as how companies act in issues regarding ethical, social and environmental sustainability. The point of departure of the course is the strategic production issues that industrial and service companies are faced with when new products or services are to be developed and introduced on an increasingly globalised market.
The course consists of lectures, seminars and group project. Examples of areas that are covered: innovation management, core competence, outsourcing, supply chain management and global production.
