The course consists of a series of lectures which treat different perspectives on technique/technincs, technology, and technological development in today’s society. This series is complemented by a number of texts from different traditions of thought, along with continual individual work on a number of individual assignments closely related to the literature and the lectures.
Supposedly, the most central moment of the course, and the kind of learning process it strives to accomplish, consists in reflection through continuous reading, and through continuous writing.
— Be able to give an account of different ways of understanding technique/technics, technology and technological development in today's society
— Be able to explain how these concepts are related — are influenced by and influence — science and scientific traditions of thought.
— Be able to account for how the aforementioned concepts are related to ideological and religious doctrines.
— By means of the conceptual apparatus that the course has discussed, be able to scrutinise the knowledge that you have acquired during your studies at KTH.
— Be able to critically reflect on the role of the engineer in the technologically oriented society of today, where technological development is often seen as a measurement of success and welfare, and a remedy to societal problems.
